Week 1, Introduction to Multimedia Communication (no practical classes this week)

 It's another day of opportunity!

Dear Students of Multimedia Communication, in the video above I mentioned why I will be giving all my classes virtually this semester. I wish I could work with you in person. Maybe next year . . .

Although we won't be seeing each other in person, even if you're on campus, I want to make sure your experience is rich and rewarding. And I will need your help. Let me explain the dynamics of the class.

Zoom classes will be recorded for students in the Americas and Asia with time conflicts or who cannot attend in person. Links to the recordings will be posted in ADI, the online system for grading and administration of the course.

1. Theory class will meet every Tuesday at 12 on Zoom and in Aula 1. The first part will last around 40 minutes, with quizzes and other interactivity. Students who are on campus can go to Aula 1 and see their fellow classmates, but the Zoom video will not be on the classroom screen. You will need a laptop or mobile device to watch the class. You must have earphones (auriculares, cascos) to avoid having 40 devices filling the room with a chaos of sound.

1a. The rest of the theory class will be a form of interactivity that will be announced that day. Sometimes it will involve using the discussion forums.

Below, you can see how you will access the discussion forums in ADI.

2. All of your homework and reading assignments will be posted each week here, on the course blog.

3. Practical classes. Prof. Lus Gárate will supervise these classes in person. In these classes you will do the weekly exercises, and later in the semester you will work on your final projects. You will be divided into two groups for these laboratory sessions.

  • Group 1 will meet  at 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays on Zoom and in Aula 1560.
  • Group 2 will meet at 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays on Zoom and in the Multimedia Room in FCOM.
  • Which group am I in? You will see your group assignment in ADI. If you need to switch groups, talk to Prof. Lus Gárate, elus@unav.es.

4. In the right hand column of this blog you will find many resources and answers to many of your questions.

(If you are viewing this on your mobile phone, sometimes it is not possible to see the right-hand column; use a laptop or desktop computer).

5. How you can help.  This class will be more fun and interesting for you if I can figure out the best ways to promote interactivity. Any suggestions you have are more than welcome.
